Cruise ships will resume calls at the Turks & Caicos’ Grand Turk Cruise Center beginning next week, said Carnival Corp., officials in a statement issued April 3, 2013. Carnival will re-open the port after the company’s tests “did not conclusively determine” a direct link between reported cases of gastroenteritis and cruise passengers’ visits to the island.
Carnival, which owns the port development, last month closed the facility to cruise arrivals while it investigated “an increase in the number of guests reporting symptoms of gastroenteritis following visits to Grand Turk” reported by several cruise lines using the port.
In cooperation with local health officials, Carnival formed a task force of health experts from other cruise lines and external public health officials “perform extensive tests on all aspects of the operation, including procedures, systems and equipment.”
